The Story

Nothing says summertime like fresh berries! The Apache Blackberry is a deciduous perennial fruiting shrub released in 1998 through the University of Arkansas blackberry breeding program. This summer delight is a thornless blackberry in the Rosaceae family, related to Peaches and Loquats. It bears erect canes which require no trellising support to stay upright and doesn’t “creep” like its other blackberry cousins.

The Apache Blackberry bears white, fragrant flowers which attract pollinators and eventually ripen into a summertime harvests of plump, dark bundles of juicy, sweet perfection. Apache grows the largest fruit of all the 3 thornless blackberry varieties (versus the Arapaho and Natchez) and is known for its good yield and great flavor! Try them out of hand or in smoothies, cereal or sherbets!
